Whether you are setting out to do your first shoot with minimal crew or are part of a large feature film set, you will benefit from understanding the technology at work. Over two days we discuss various approaches how to get the best out of the equipment, the terms and procedures to help you work effectively with the cast, crew and production team, as well as establishing a framework within which you can best use the resources at hand.
Day 1 - Film-makers' know-how
- How various cameras influence your filming approach and the final result
- How the cameras work, how buttons and lenses change the picture
- Setting up the shot: composition, camera movement and getting the right coverage for the editing process
- Lighting, health & safety
- Sound production and post, microphones and positioning.
- Production Design, approaches to visual storytelling, set types, props, costume & make-up needs
Day 2 - From idea to cast 'n' crew screening
- Documentary: Research methodology, interview planning and shooting
- Screenwriting: How to find a story and develop character & plot
- Budgeting, production meeting schedule, location recce, permissions, casting
- A typical shooting day, who does what, the first take, wrapping up
- Principles of non-linear editing, connecting rushes, from first assembly via rough cut screenings to picture lock, rhythm and structure, credits and titles, delivery
